What are the battery cells of industrial lithium batteries?

Today, let's talk about the selection and requirements of industrial lithium battery manufacturers for battery cells when producing lithium batteries.


What are the battery cells of industrial lithium batteries?

At present, there are three main types of industrial lithium battery cells on the market: 18650 cells, polymer cells, and lithium iron phosphate cells. It is better for consumers to choose polymer lithium batteries, followed by 18650 batteries. Compared with the former two, the technology of iron phosphate lithium batteries is not mature, and the fatal disadvantages of large size and high price make it impossible to scale up in industrial lithium batteries.


18650 battery cells

The 18650 lithium battery refers to a battery with a diameter of 18mm and a length of 65mm, where 0 represents a cylindrical battery. The technology of 18650 battery cells is relatively mature, with stable battery structure, high specific capacity, outstanding comprehensive performance, and can be used in many ranges due to their small size. The disadvantage is that its safety is worse than polymer lithium batteries, and the number of cycles of the battery cell is lower, only about 300 times.


Polymer cells

The difference between polymer cells and traditional lithium-ion batteries lies in the production process. Lithium batteries are wound together and have a relatively soft volume. Polymers are stacked together and have a harder body shape. Polymer and lithium batteries of the same volume have a larger capacity, about 30% higher. And it is safer with less risk of explosion. Long service life. Charging and discharging have reached over 500 times. The disadvantage is high cost, with polymer cells of the same capacity being at least 100% more expensive than 18650 lithium-ion cells.


The advantages of industrial lithium batteries
① The service life of lead-acid batteries is around 300 cycles, with a maximum of 500 cycles, while lithium batteries can have a cycle life of over 2000 cycles. Under the same conditions, the maximum service life of lead-acid batteries is only 1-1.5 years, while under the same conditions, the lifespan of new industrial lithium batteries can reach 7-8 years.
② Weight and capacity, the volume of industrial lithium battery packs is two-thirds of that of lead-acid battery packs, and the weight is one-third of the weight of lead-acid batteries. That is to say, if a lithium battery pack with the same capacity is as big as an egg, then a lead-acid battery pack needs to be as big as three eggs. Therefore, when used on machines, lithium-ion batteries are smaller in size, lighter in weight, and more convenient to operate, while lead-acid batteries are larger and heavier in size, which will bring certain drawbacks to machine operation.
③ Environmentally friendly, the lithium battery pack pack does not contain any heavy metals or rare metals, and will not cause pollution and pressure to the environment. Lead acid batteries contain a large amount of lead and acid, and improper recycling after use can cause pollution.

④ The safety performance is improved, and the P-O bond in the crystal of lithium iron phosphate battery pack is stable and difficult to decompose. Even at high temperatures or overcharging, it will not collapse and generate heat or form strong oxidizing substances like lithium cobalt oxide, so it has good safety. Compared to ternary lithium batteries, the safety factor has been greatly improved.

⑤ No memory effect, lithium iron phosphate batteries can be charged and used at any time regardless of their state, without the need to discharge them before charging.
⑥ Good high-temperature performance, wide working temperature range (-20C -+75C), and high temperature resistance. The thermal peak of lithium iron phosphate battery pack can reach 350 ℃ -500 ℃, while lithium manganese oxide and lithium cobalt oxide are only around 200 ℃.
