Three technical bottlenecks in the development of power lithium batteries.


The key factors that hinder the development of power vehicles in China include range, charging speed, and safety performance. These three factors are all caused by inadequate power lithium battery technology, and can therefore be seen as the three technical bottlenecks of power lithium batteries.


1、 Short range: With the continuous maturity of technology, the range of electric vehicles powered by lithium batteries has increased from less than 100 kilometers to around 300 kilometers, with some models exceeding 400 kilometers. But there is still a certain gap compared to the mainstream mileage of 500 kilometers for current fuel vehicles. This problem can be solved by multiple strings of individual battery cells, but the negative problem is that the volume is too large, which increases the inconvenience of driving the car.

2、 Slow charging speed: Compared to short driving range, slow charging of power lithium batteries is a greater constraint on the development of electric vehicles. At normal speed, it takes 4-8 hours for the lithium-ion battery of an electric vehicle to fully charge. There are also fast charging lithium batteries available now that can be fully charged within 1-2 hours, but their negative effects are significant, with their lifespan drastically reduced to one-third of its original value and battery performance significantly declining. Fuel vehicles do not have these problems, with refueling time not exceeding 5 minutes, and safety and stability can be guaranteed.


3、 Safety performance needs improvement: Since the birth of lithium-ion batteries, safety issues have been troubling consumers. From mobile phones and laptops to today's electric vehicles, safety accidents continue to occur. Except for electric vehicles from Nissan and Tesla that have not yet caught fire, electric vehicles from Zotye and BYD in China, General Motors and Fisker in the United States have all experienced spontaneous combustion or fires.
The existence of the above three problems has led to an increase in research and development costs for lithium batteries due to overcoming these three drawbacks, and high priced products have also constrained the development of power batteries and power battery electric vehicles.
