The working principle of lithium-ion batteries.

When the battery is charged, lithium ions are generated on the positive electrode of the battery, and the generated lithium ions move to the negative electrode through the electrolyte. As the negative electrode, carbon has a layered structure with many micropores. The lithium ions that reach the negative electrode are embedded in the micropores of the carbon layer. The more lithium ions are embedded, the higher the charging capacity. Similarly, when the battery is discharged (the process we use the battery), the lithium ions embedded in the negative carbon layer will escape and return to the positive electrode. The more lithium ions return to the positive electrode, the higher the discharge capacity.

Generally, the charging current of lithium batteries is set between 0.2C and 1C. The higher the current, the faster the charging, and the greater the heat generated by the battery. In addition, if the current is too high, the capacity will not be full because the electrochemical reactions inside the battery require time. For lithium batteries, normal use is the process of discharge. The following points should be noted when discharging lithium batteries:
1. The discharge current should not be too high. Excessive current can cause internal heating of the battery, which may cause permanent damage.

2. Never over discharge! Lithium batteries are afraid of over discharge. Once the discharge voltage drops below 2.7V, the battery may be scrapped.

Lithium ion batteries use carbon materials as the negative electrode and compounds containing lithium as the positive electrode. There is no metallic lithium, only lithium ions, which is what lithium-ion batteries are. Lithium ion batteries are a general term for batteries that use lithium ion intercalation compounds as positive electrode materials. The charging and discharging process of lithium-ion batteries is the process of lithium ion insertion and deintercalation. In the process of lithium ion insertion and deintercalation, there is an accompanying process of equivalent electron insertion and deintercalation with lithium ions.
