Correct usage method of 26650 lithium battery.


Lithium batteries are an increasingly widely used energy storage and conversion device, as their excellent electrochemical performance enables a market application scenario that keeps up with the times from small to medium to large. When we talk about the correct use of lithium batteries, we usually refer to small applications such as consumer electronics, such as smartphones and laptops. Because large and medium-sized applications are based on small-scale application technology, small-scale applications have common characteristics, while large and medium-sized applications are much more complex. Typically, medium-sized applications are on new energy vehicles, which we commonly refer to as power batteries; Large scale applications are usually located on base stations, which we commonly refer to as energy storage batteries. So when we talk about the usage of lithium batteries, limiting them to small-scale applications is in line with people's habitual understanding.

The working principle of lithium batteries is nothing more than charging to store energy, discharging to convert into other energy and releasing it. When not charging or discharging, lithium batteries are in an idle state. Therefore, the correct use of lithium batteries can be summarized into three aspects: proper charging, proper discharging, and proper maintenance.


Correct charging method for lithium batteries

Seize the time and prevent overcharging. Doing the right thing at the right time, although lithium batteries themselves have excellent electrochemical performance, any thing that deviates from the equilibrium state will have safety hazards. To elaborate,


1. Charge when charging. In the early days of the emergence of smartphones, each mobile phone manufacturer, in order to protect their own interests, often emphasized the use of original chargers (including charging cables) to charge electrical devices. Some manufacturers designed dedicated data cables and did not support other chargers (including charging cables). Later on, with the increasing use of smartphones and laptops, it was clear that continuing like this would be self imposed. Therefore, now everyone has basically unified standards, and a charger/cable can charge different brands and types of electrical appliances. Charging has become more convenient, and one issue that users should pay attention to is to try to keep the battery at a normal level of charge at all times. Under normal circumstances, when the battery level is low, both the phone and laptop will receive a reminder, and you need to recharge it in a timely manner. Although low battery level will not cause direct safety accidents, excessive use will eventually damage the battery structure.

2. Just fill it up. The interior of a lithium battery cell is also composed of many components. A new battery is fine, but if it is used for a long time, the function of any component may deteriorate, thus posing a safety risk of overcharging. Several typical accidents involving Samsung and Apple that have been exposed were caused by appliance owners charging their phones by placing them at the bedside while sleeping, ultimately leading to combustion and explosions.

3. Never use one mind for two purposes. I have experienced that while charging and using a mobile phone, especially when playing games, it is very easy to feel the phone heating up. The reason is also very simple. A mobile phone is equivalent to working two jobs at the same time, which requires it to put in more than double the amount of labor, and the body will naturally heat up.


Correct discharge method for lithium batteries

Charge in a timely manner to prevent over discharge. Ordinary mobile phone users are not aware of the hazards of excessive use, as there have usually been no reports of safety accidents caused by excessive use. Moreover, some people even believe that regular deep discharge is beneficial for maintaining battery performance. In fact, this is not the case because the memory effect of lithium batteries can be ignored, and there is no such thing as deep discharge eliminating the memory effect. In theory, the total cycle life of lithium batteries after deep discharge will be longer, but the risk is that excessive discharge of the battery will cause the battery voltage to be too low, unable to charge normally, and sometimes it will take a long time to turn on, or even fail to turn on. The lesser of the two harms is better than not being able to use them, so we advise mobile phone and laptop users not to frequently use black screens.


Proper maintenance of lithium batteries
Suitable temperature, resistant to cold and hot. When idle, lithium batteries usually do not cause safety accidents. The purpose of daily maintenance is to place lithium batteries in a suitable environment, thereby delaying battery aging. In fact, one of the parameters in the design of lithium batteries is the appropriate temperature. Relatively speaking, a lower temperature is not a big problem, but if it is placed at a higher temperature, as the saying goes, the extreme will reverse, which can also cause safety issues. What we mean by idle state is only in terms of normal environment. If the lithium battery is placed in water or near a fire source, it has already moved away from the topic of "maintenance". So, what should be done in a normal environment? In terms of moisture resistance and heat resistance, it prevents exposure to sunlight. Therefore, the suitable environment for daily maintenance of lithium batteries should be four words: ventilated and cool. Whether the lithium battery is independently idle or used in electrical appliances, these four words should be followed.
