It is understood that SONY Company in Japan established a standard lithium-ion battery model to save costs, where 18 represents a diameter of 18mm, 65 represents a length of 65mm, and 0 represents a cylindrical battery. It is 18650, the ancestor of lithium-ion batteries. Our common 18650 batteries are divided into lithium-ion batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries. The nominal voltage of lithium-ion batteries is 3.7V, and the charging cutoff voltage is 4.2V. The nominal voltage of lithium iron phosphate batteries is 3.2V, and the charging cutoff voltage is 3.6V. The capacity is usually 1200mAh to 3350mAh, and the common capacity is 2200mAh to 2600mAh.

Advantages:
Large capacity
The capacity of 18650 lithium batteries is generally between 1200mah and 3600mah, while the general battery capacity is only about 800mah. If combined into an 18650 lithium battery pack, the 18650 lithium battery pack can easily exceed 5000mah.

Long lifespan
The service life of 18650 lithium batteries is very long, with a cycle life of over 500 times during normal use, which is more than twice that of ordinary batteries.

High safety performance
18650 lithium batteries have high safety performance, do not explode or burn; Non toxic, pollution-free, certified by RoHS trademark; All kinds of safety performance are achieved in one go, with more than 500 cycles; Good high-temperature resistance, with a discharge efficiency of 100% at 65 degrees Celsius. To prevent battery short circuits, the positive and negative poles of 18650 lithium batteries are separated. So the possibility of a short circuit occurring has been reduced to the extreme. Protective plates can be installed to prevent overcharging and discharging of the battery, which can also extend its service life.

High voltage
The voltage of 18650 lithium batteries is generally 3.6V, 3.8V, and 4.2V, which is much higher than the 1.2V voltage of nickel cadmium and nickel hydrogen batteries.

No memory effect, convenient to use
There is no memory effect and there is no need to empty the remaining battery before charging.

Low internal resistance
The internal resistance of polymer cells is smaller than that of general liquid cells, and the internal resistance of domestic polymer cells can even reach below 35m Ω, greatly reducing the battery's self consumption and extending the standby time of mobile phones, which can fully reach the level of international integration. This polymer lithium battery that supports high discharge currents is an ideal choice for remote control models, making it the most promising product to replace nickel hydrogen batteries.

Disadvantages:

Fixed volume
The biggest disadvantage of 18650 lithium batteries is that their size is already fixed, making them difficult to position when installed in some laptops or products. Of course, this disadvantage can also be considered an advantage, compared to other polymer lithium batteries that can be customized and can be changed in size. This is a disadvantage. Compared to some products with specified battery specifications, it has become an advantage. 18650 lithium batteries are prone to short circuits or explosions, which is also relative to polymer lithium batteries. If compared to ordinary batteries, this disadvantage is not so obvious.

It is necessary to protect the circuit
The production of 18650 lithium batteries requires protective circuits to prevent the battery from being overcharged and causing discharge. Of course, this is necessary for lithium batteries, and it is also a disadvantage of lithium batteries, because the materials used in lithium batteries are mostly lithium cobalt oxide materials, and lithium cobalt oxide materials cannot discharge large currents, resulting in poor safety.

Strict production requirements are high
The production conditions of 18650 lithium batteries require high requirements, which undoubtedly increases production costs compared to general battery production.
