How to charge 26650 lithium battery correctly?

To prevent overcharging of lithium batteries, they must be designed with protective circuits. The lithium battery charger JC is suitable for single cell and 2-4 cell battery packs. What are the basic requirements for lithium battery chargers? How to properly charge lithium batteries?

26650 Lithium Battery

1. When charging, it should be fully charged and the accuracy of the termination charging voltage should be around 1%;
2. During the charging and discharging process, if there is no overcurrent, short-circuit protection should be designed;
3. When reaching the termination discharge voltage, it is forbidden to continue discharging, and the accuracy of the termination discharge voltage should be controlled at around 3%;
4. Pre charge deeply discharged batteries (not lower than the termination discharge voltage) with low current before charging;

5. To ensure the stable and reliable operation of the battery and prevent interference from transient voltage changes, a delay circuit for overcharge, overdischarge, and overcurrent protection should be designed internally to prevent instability caused by transient interference;

6. Low self power consumption (the charger should be powered on during charging and discharging). A single battery charger typically consumes less than 10uA, while a multi cell battery pack typically consumes around 20uA; When reaching the termination of discharge, it is in a closed state and generally consumes less than 2uA of electricity;
7. Lithium battery chargers have a simple circuit, few peripheral components, and small space occupation, and can generally be made in batteries or battery packs;
8. The factors that affect the safety and effective charging of lithium batteries include voltage, current, and temperature. Therefore, in the design of chargers, these three factors should be taken into account and controlled.

How to charge lithium batteries correctly?

The safe working voltage range of lithium batteries is 2.8-4.2V. If the voltage is lower or higher than this range, the lithium ions in the battery become very unstable and even cause accidents. To ensure that the battery is within a safe range, a specialized charger is required. The suitable temperature for charging lithium batteries is 0-45 ℃. If charging at 0.5C, the 1C temperature rise can be set to 90 ℃. At this time, the charger operates at an ambient temperature of 35 ℃, which is the best for charging lithium batteries. Therefore, the current for charging at a 2-hour rate is optimal. Lithium batteries are easy to activate and can be restored to normal capacity after 35 normal charge and discharge cycles.
